Experience

Dave has over 30 years of professional retirement and actuarial consulting experience, primarily with two of the largest and most reputable accounting firms in the world. Working in the actuarial and benefits consulting groups as Senior Vice President at Mesirow Financial, Director at Deloitte, and Senior Manager at Price Waterhouse, Dave has obtained considerable knowledge and broad expertise in accounting, taxation, due diligence, actuarial valuation, plan termination analysis, cash-flow and financial statement expense projections, consulting on a multitude of issues pertaining to defined benefit and post-retirement health benefit plans for public, private, and governmental sectors.

Over the last several years, Dave has focused primarily in the plan termination arena, assisting clients in cost effective settlement of their pension benefit obligations. His current responsibility is to interact with clients and their advisors along with potential insurers to accurately assess the settlement obligations, including review and understanding of plan provisions and administrative practice, collection and review of participant data, development of bid solicitation packages for insurer proposal requests, review of preliminary and final pricing and plan provisions, and continued post-sale interaction to resolve interpretation issues.

Additionally, Dave assists plan sponsors that are not in a position to terminate in identifying and reducing risks inherent in the ongoing operation of their plan, including: assessing the viability of partial settlement actions (eg, buy-in, buy-out, and lump sum strategies); consulting on plan termination implementation and readiness challenges; ongoing monitoring of settlement options; and evaluating all economic costs inherent in maintaining the plan.

Experience in reviewing multiple benefit plans, working directly with insurers and financial advisors have provided the knowledge for Dave to provide and implement accurate and understandable pension risk transfer alternatives. Dave has annually attended conferences and meetings since 1989 in order to meet professional continuing education requirements. Additionally, he participates in monthly webinars and conference calls throughout the year to keep abreast of current trends, techniques and best practices. Dave is not affiliated with any insurance company.
